The Futures Studies program at the University of Houston offers education and training in futures thinking and methodologies in a variety of formats that are customized for different learners with different needs.

Student work

The curriculum puts a strong emphasis on student’s producing client-ready work. Assignments are routinely crafted with an imaginary client in mind—and we occasionally draw on the community to provide “real” clients. We also encourage students to share their work with the foresight community. Each year, representative student project are featured in two foresight forums: A “Best of Houston” session at the World Future Society each summer features several student presentations from our program and the best student papers are entered into the Association of Professional Futurists’ ”Student Recognition” program and compete against foresight students from a dozen other programs across the globe.

Faculty Projects

The faculty is active outside the classroom working with “real-life” clients and audiences. Sharing the experience gained in practicing foresight is cited by students as one of the most valuable aspects of the program. Faculty are involved in a range of consulting, workshopping, speaking and writing, as well as participating in professional associations and activities.
